Mayor of Kitchener and President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

Prior to his election to the mayor's office, he represented District 2 as city councilor at Kitchener City Council. He ran as a candidate for the Liberal Party of Ontario at the Kitchener Center in the provincial elections of 1999.
